Rescuing Chooks
“It’s the worst part about what I do.” – egg farmers.
We work with egg farm owners, to take all their hens at the time when they would’ve had to cull them. This is typically when the hens are around two years of age, when they no longer lay an egg every day because they are no longer commercially viable! The egg farmers happily tell their customers that all their hens find forever homes!
Forever Home for Chooks
“Every chook deserves a happy retirement!” – every hen.
It is important these rescued hens go to their forever homes, where they will be cared for, egg or no egg. We have an approval process for hen parents, now affectionately called ‘Mother Cluckers!’ This ensures every hen finds a caring home where they can live happily in a smaller flock.

We have over the years, through experience and lots of research, been able to find helpful ways to care for hens so they can live happy healthy lives. When they are unwell we also have a coop full of ideas to help. If we don’t know, we find out and share because more hens will be happier and healthier! Of course, seeing your avian vet is always your best option if you have any serious concerns.

A chicken or as we call them in Australia, a chook, can be a hen (pullet when young) or a rooster (cockerel when young). We want better welfare for all chooks no matter what they are bred for – egg laying, meat, school projects, backyard hens. They all deserve to live a happy healthy life . We will be one of the loudest voices advocating for better standards for chooks in Australia.
